Just Breathe! is your monthly consciousness raising and expanding home-study course. Read the entire ezine--best for your enhanced awareness--or select articles that call to you. Just Breathe’s Purpose is:

  • Re-minding ourselves of the omnipresent connection with the Infinite;
  • Promoting cultivation and use of the spiritual power within one’s breath as a natural transformational and empowerment tool for the advancement of humanity beginning with the individual;
  • Sharing uplifting ideas;
  • Keeping our thoughts heading in the direction of our choosing, our emotions open and flowing, and physically feeling fully alive.

Letter from the Editor (writer, proof reader and researcher)

A Different Approach

This month’s ezine has two stories for you. The first is for cat lovers and all who care about animals. The second is a future perspective—speculative fiction containing commentary about today’s times. Rather that simply place them in the ezine itself, the stories begin with the first paragraph and then take you to other pages where you can read the rest of the stories.

I’ve also included an article on breathing for you from someone else—hopefully providing a different perspective so you will be more enthusiastic about your personal practice of Full Wave Breathing. Before he received his Ph.D., Rusty Barrier was one of our trainers who successfully taught dozens how to transform their lives using the amazing technique IBI calls Full Wave.  He called it the Daleth Breath so I asked him what that meant. He said, “It is the fourth letter of the Hebrew alphabet and symbolically represents the doorway; not the door, but rather the passage way itself.  To me this is what this breath does-- it opens up all the passages between where we are as egos and Who we Are as Soul.”

Here is the description from his website (www.rustybarrier.com) where you’ll find other articles in which you might be interested:

Daleth Breathwork or Full-Wave Breathing, is designed to assist the participant in gaining a greater sense of health, well-being and balance in an ever changing world.

It is a self-empowerment tool designed to give the participant the ability to reclaim mastery over their life by opening the inner doorways to the innate wisdom of their own body and Soul. This dynamic tool is for everyone who wants to quickly and efficiently transform old, nonproductive habits and thoughts patterns into a life of freedom and joy.

The simplest and most effective tool for Awakening, is breathing.  Breathing can bring joy, peace and clarity in your life.  Simply put, if you don’t breathe you don’t live.  We all understand that, yet there is more to the power and process of breathing.  Every spiritual tradition focuses on the power of breathing and making your breathing process ‘conscious’.

Many spiritual paths talk about breath as spirit.  The Native American tradition talks about wind as spirit.  All meditation and yoga classes teach some form of breathing. Sometimes it is a rapid in and out through the nose.  Other times it is a slower breath.

Spiritual paths have always known, that in order to have joy and peace in your life, in order to feel in control of your life, in order to stand in the Divine Now moment, you must use Conscious Breathing.  This type of breathing will assist you in your everyday life.

In the Hindu tradition focusing on the breath is called ‘Pranayama’.  Prana means first energy, it is the energy of the entire universe.  That is what you are actually bringing in to yourself.  Oxygen is the carrier of Prana, or Life-Force, or God/Goddess.  Even in Genesis, the Bible, says that God breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and man became a living soul.  Breath is that life-force that animates us all.

One type of Buddhist breathing, focusing on and counting your breaths, is to bring you to a meditative state, in order to deepen your connection to all things.  All spiritual paths have understood the importance of breathing.  Deep proper breathing is really all about connecting you with your soul.

Your soul is always in joy, your ego is always suffering.  Your ego is the part of you that doesn’t want you to breath.  Your ego is afraid that if you breath you won’t need to suffer anymore and therefore it will be out of a job.  Any time you begin to quiet your mind you begin to access the still small voice within, that is your soul.

All of us need to be living from our soul in this modern time.  You’ve tried all the material things.  You bought the right car, the right house, the right boat, etc.  You’ve had the right relationship, the right vacation, the right job and yet nothing brought you long lasting fulfillment.  The only thing that will bring you true fulfillment is connection with your soul, that divine part of yourself.  The quickest and easiest way to obtain that connection with your soul is to breathe.

It doesn’t matter what your spiritual belief system is, when you pray to the God or Goddess of your choice, breathe.  When you meditate, breathe.  Breathing brings us calmness and peace.  Breathing allows your individualized self to move aside and reconnect with the Oneness of All That Is.  Breathing opens all the inner doorways to your higher self, to your soul.  When you breathe you are bringing in your Divine Self more fully and completely, you are Awakening.

We can go without food for 40 days or so without dying, we could go without water for 5-7 days without dying, but only 4 minutes without breathing.  Your body is giving you a reminder of the importance of the breath.  Breath is life!

Most things in your body are automatic.  You don’t normally control your heart rate, you don’t control your digestive system, you don’t control your pupil dilation, and for most of us these things are way beyond our ability to control.  But all of us can take conscious control of our breathing.  When you begin to think about your breathing and play with the breath, it allows you to enter some very deep spiritual places.  It also gives you a sense of control over what is happening in your life.

An example is the “fight or flight” response.  Right now, put one hand on your stomach and one hand on your chest, allow yourself to breath normally.  Now, which hand is moving?  Is your stomach going in and out or is your chest going in and out?  Most people are only breathing with their upper chest.  This activates the “fight or flight” response.  This creates stress.

If you are not breathing fully it can effect your blood pressure, your circulation, your stress level and your life in negative ways.  According to Dr. Alfred Coodley of the University of Southern California Medical School, “Stress is a major contributing factor in 100% of all disease.”  In our modern culture, 90% of the population have a restricted breathing pattern creating chronic tension in their body.

All that is necessary to change this pattern is to become conscious of your breathing.  It is important to breathe fully and fill your lungs completely.  This will assist in clearing toxins out of your body.

The more that you breathe properly the more your lungs will get used to this kind of full breathing.  This will clean and clear your body out.  80% of the bodies toxins are released on the breath and everyone has toxins that need to be released.

Breathing consciously is a practical tool that you can use every day, all day long.  If you are sitting at your computer working on a project and you realize that you aren’t breathing deeply, than just pause a moment and take 2 or 3 deep connected breaths.  You will notice that you will immediately begin to calm down and feel more centered.  You will also be able to think clearer and therefore be more productive in your life.

What is connected breathing?  Think about a small child or an animal’s breathing pattern, it goes in and out, in and out, constantly without a pause, filling the lungs completely.  Your belly should extend with the inhale and fall with the exhale.  This is the proper style of breathing, this is a connected breath.

The best part is that there are no deleterious side effects from breathing, unless you consider more joy, happiness and peace a bad side effect.  The primary thing that breathing does is bring your soul more fully into your body, moving you toward Awakening.

Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness,
which unites your body to your thoughts.
Thich Nhat Hahn

The War on Cancer

From Natural News (www.naturalnews.com) an article on cancer treatments points out that there are more people making a living from cancer than there are dying from it and the widespread use of laetrile, or any other effective natural therapy, would present a dilemma for the powerful cancer industry. It's simply not in their best interest--Griffin, G. Edward: World Without Cancer. Westlake Village, CA: American Media, 16th printing, 2001.

New View of Overweight

An 11 year study by Harvard associated researchers involving 39,000 women concluded that fat is detrimental to heart health even if you are relatively fit. Results show overweight active women at a 54% greater risk of developing heart disease than normal-weight active women. Obese active women are at an 87% higher risk, about the same (88%) as for inactive overweight women. Cleary weight matters.

Fiction?

“If only mankind had recognized his own soul before it was too late, the whole world would have been able to do the same thing. But the seraph had infiltrated us with the lie that we were a body only, that there was no soul that was admissible to understanding and to science, and that science was a strange exploration having nothing to do with the kingdom of God, when, in fact, there was no real science that did not address heaven and satori.”—2012 by Whitley Strieber

What If It Was As Simple As Remembering To

Just Breathe!

...and to doing the next thing?

What if the Universe was only awaiting your move into states of mind-body-spirit harmony to produce greater joy and aliveness?

Words of the Wise

Here's the most important thing to remember whenever you find yourself in a mad rush: what you really want, what you're really after, is a quiet mind... a peaceable state of self reached only by realizing there is no place more empowering for you to be than in the present moment.—Guy Finley

  • See for yourself, as you improve your breathing, peace grows.--Tom

  • Let us train our minds to desire what the situation demands. --Seneca

  • I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies.--Aristotle

The Duh Factor

The Ego-Mind’s Solution

"Authenticity is the key. If you can fake that, you’d got it made.”

Training Wheels

Most people can understand the idea that their thoughts are creative. What is difficult is to keep the mind focused on the goal and not on it’s not being currently realized. It requires tremendous mental discipline to focus upon receiving and being grateful for having received/achieved the goal. Fortunately, there is a set of training wheels you can use to train your brain to be aware in the present and not get caught up in regret, worry, and other low-energy, life draining states.

The training wheels are your inhale and exhale. That’s right; you can use your breathing to keep you on track. First you open up the body, restoring circulation and oxygenating cells, tissues and organs. Then you use your breathing to engage your feeling body so you can empower your emotions in behalf of goals.

Now you are ready to train the mind and can more effectively use affirmation and imagery by combining them with your breathing. It sounds simple, and it is.

It is also easy. Follow the steps, gaining energy and confidence as you go, and you’ll reach your destination. It’s an easy 30 days to a new you.

Breathe and Grow Rich Reminder

How is breathing connected with getting rich? Can you accomplish anything without energy? Of course not. Do those who are healthier and happier accomplish more that the unhealthy and unhappy? Of course they do.

Is stress still the major cause of disease? Yes it is—as much as 90%. So would being able to expand your ability to handle stress be useful? Of course it would!

If you could increase your energy level by 10% what would it be worth? The value monetarily is incalculable. To the world around you it could make all the difference.

The dwindling global energy in the form of fossil fuel and economic contraction is a symbol of what is going on internally. You can reverse the process personally. The remedy? You read about it every month. What exactly to do about it is revealed in depth in Breathe and Grow Rich

From The Edge

In this column I write to the enlightened space within every person and all of my brothers and sister who share this Earth. My long life has led me to conclude that the place of light, the gift of grace given each, can be cultivated , nurtured into a life of compassionate regard for every form of life. Speaking each month to that space within each reader is intended to “exercise” the knowing self, connect with the awakened self.

My vision would be that by observing and engaging other humans from this space affords the best opportunity for harmonious life. Doing so quiets the mind and permits communication from the heart and mind working together.

Heart communicates inclusion and understanding. Fear is overcome. Continue Fully Wave Breathing to energetically resolve (recalibrate, reformat) cellular stored trauma and fear.  In other words, get straight with yourself first. Then, consciously connect with the hearts of others, so you can “see” the space of enlightenment within.

If we then think about it, if the soul be real, then it would be best for each person to act that way--living as if all life mattered. If the soul not exist, then all of the breathing, meditating, and blessing creates a form of  hypnosis to (at least) enable one to live  with peace in his psyche until the current life adventure concludes.  Or so it appears to me.

Each month as the current issue of Just Breathe! is birthed, the copy re-read and the links checked, there is an emptiness, a void that forms. “Surely,” I say to myself, “I have said it all. With this issue, I am emptied and have no more to speak messages of self-love and about how breathing will awaken a soul to their own magnificence and keep each on a path of joyous realization.” Then I rest.

The rest period is short for the belief is that Nature abhors a vacuum. Actually Nature doesn’t give a hoot. It is its nature—natural that it moves to fill the vacuum. Nature doesn’t have an opinion or emotion about the process. Since the belief is that the vacuum will be filled, I also assume there will be a next edition of the ezine and another one even after that.

How much longer will they continue? I have no idea at present. In the present, there is only this issue—the vacuum to be filled and the question—what more can be said?

I am reminded too of the aphorism that there is more said than done. Perhaps it is different in another world where truth is recognized and acted upon immediately. In that world, I wrote one issue of Just Breathe! and repeated it each month. The readers didn’t need to have the point made from varied perspectives since their brains work differently than brains here. They “tried” it and then forwarded the one issue to all of their friends.

Soon, in that world, people were getting well. The hospitals were vacant except for ER and OB. The ER usage slowed as well since people were more conscious and less accident prone. Self-love was up, so accidents and illness created to attract attention declined by 47%. Perhaps their getting better sleep in that world helped as well.

However, the brains here, in this world (amazing stuff we learn) have to have information repeated for it to sink in. How deeply it needs to sink in to cause action has mostly been a mystery to me. Every parent wants to know too: “How many times do I have to tell you…?” The child answers, “I don’t know.”

I suppose it is different for each of us how often we have to have something repeated before it makes a dent, (dint is a better word, but who would understand it?) in one’s armored thinking. How can we recognize truth when we are all so shut down? Ah, there’s the problem.

“Here is truth,” I would proclaim,

Being previously burned, you say, “That’s lame,”

“I cannot believe one need simply breathe.”

“It’s much too easy; kindly leave,”

So I conjure proof unending,

Books and media, in constant tending,

Only to hear, “It brings up fear;”

“So I’ll watch TV—Thanks anyway dear.”

If you are pursuing soul consciousness you need knowledge about soul and higher mind. Since it wasn’t taught in traditional education and even neglected in our culture where you were taught not how to think, but, instead, what to think and believe, you are on your own. Yes, each of us is on our own to find the knowledge we require to then give us permission to seek the experience.

You can read about taking a bath and acquire great knowledge regarding the process and the component steps. Yet, while the knowledge can lead you to a willingness to experience a bath, true knowledge will be based on the experience.

At higher levels, we also need experience at a higher mind level as well as at the buddhic level. That is to say that nirvana is nice, and who is going to do the dishes and empty the trash?

EMAIL PROMO

Amazingly, I found this ad in my email.  To me, it read like a plea for breathing. Then they wanted to sell me a product. Read it and see what you think:

The Natural Antidote to Aging

In case you haven’t heard - There are a diverse group of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that protect your cells from the fire of living.

What do I mean by “fire of living?” I’m talking about the burn of metabolism. Your body uses oxygen to convert fuel into usable energy through a process of “oxidation.”

Problem is - oxidation produces free radicals. These are high-energy, unstable molecules that can bind to healthy cells, potentially altering their DNA, damaging their delicate machinery, even killing them.

Antioxidants neutralize the free radicals. Your body makes use of both internally produced and external antioxidants to protect itself from free radical damage. But there’s a fly in the soup - Your body’s antioxidant factory slows down as you age. This speeds cell death and facilitates aging.

While what they say is true about the body’s antioxidant factory slowing down, the why is missing. The why is because breathing slows down to the point so that a 60 year old has only half the vital capacity of a 30 year old—unless he exercises his breathing! Lungs don’t shrink and vital capacity can be maintained into old age. No substance required. To find out for yourself read about the Wonderpill.

Each month I sit to sell the absolute. Focused at computer, consciousness resolute: If you could see what I have seen, watched a smile appear on facey sheen. After the breathing, you’d KNOW what I mean. Would you perform it then—even a few minutes each day? Or are you too busy with dealthly play? If life were handed on a silver tray, would you be so busy as to push it away?

So it seems when clients present, their difficulties blamed on being heaven sent. And all the power that lies within. They say, “Don’t make me dig it out; whose fault is it that it be within.”

And so the thirst continues as people lie by the lake; filled with their moaning, forgetting a drink to take. They dry up, dying by the score. Yet life is freely given would they but inhale it more.

The next email asked the experience of ego resistance and Full Wave Breathing. I thought it might help those lying by the lake to get a little closer to the water.

As your Full Wave Breathing practice continues so will the challenges to your expansion arise energetically to reflect in your world. Keep breathing anyway. When as children we shut down or contracted on an issue that arose in our experience, we installed a judgment to keep the constriction in place. Now, when breathing, that judgment arises in the natural course of cleansing for our review. If we concluded at age 3, that “cats are terrible,” we may have just the passing thought or a more pleasant new encounter presented by the Universe to see if we wish to retain that judgment/opinion and the ensuing contraction of energy. Instead of cats, the issue could have been one of our innumerable “men are” or “women are” programs buried inside our biocomputer waiting to either be dissolved or re-validated.

As your breathing continues, you will want to go to sleep again and forget it all. Keep breathing anyway. Ah it feel so good to be sedated, unaware, drifting and ig-norant. If ignorance IS bliss, then the folly of being wise is a powerful seduction to resist sentient inquiry or action. Such witticisms are concocted by the ig-norant for they enjoy most their own company.

As your breathing continues, your mind will want to convince you to stop and do something "important." Keep breathing anyway. In a world of crisis, the next crisis calls. Forget about self-caretaking, isn’t the sky about to fall? We learn to live like “Chicken Little” running around and getting caught up in the latest concern and prediction of the sky falling down upon us. It is then only “normal” that we avoid activities of self-renewal. It is also thus normal for people to experience stress-related diseases that eventually overwhelm any healthcare system and any body.

As your breathing continues, you will find yourself more detached from the goings-on in the world. Keep breathing anyway. Tuning out can be as simple as turning off the television and not getting caught up in the drama of a pubescent adult discovering her life, or who the ten hottest move stars are for this year. Taking that time to go within—breathing and meditation—creates a space away from it. Think of your mind as an airport and thoughts as planes. Don’t let thoughts that don’t directly and positively impact your wellbeing land. You are the sovereign of your mind; choose carefully who may cross your borders.

As you breathing continues, you will find your compassion and joy growing. Keep breathing! To me, it is an interesting commentary that positive results promised produce less individual action than avoidance of negative consequence. Perhaps I should have worded this, as your breathing continues, and help prevent death from cancer and surgery. Anyway, keep breathing!—And utilize the IBI Library as a resource and a location of articles on whole-person health and parenting. www.internationalbreathinstitute.com

The Medical Mission—repeated from last month ‘cause you need to get it.

Forgive them! Modern medicine’s sole purpose is to conquer disease. As long as our minds and bodies are the battlegrounds, however, it is you or me paying the part of the patient who must bear the burden of holding this perspective. The burden is expensive and yields treatment that, not considering the energetic nature of the human organism, does not seek cause. Instead this approach treats symptoms that alternately are suppressed only to come out in an energetically different form.

Remember the part in the newsletter where you are asked to consider pain, discomfort or disease as a communication from the mindbodyspirit system? Using this philosophy, dealing with any physical, emotional or mental discomfort would be pretty simple. It would, however, require that a person sit and become still—breathing helps—and asking what the message from the discomfort happens to be. And it could be two or three things that are out of balance that the symptom is attempting to communicate.

One of the biggest problems in getting people to see pain, discomfort or disease as communication is that we’d have to take the position that we live in an ordered Universe—even one of purpose—as differentiated from living in a chaotic one, beset by outside influences such as having bacterial organisms visited upon us that cause ailments. So if the Universe had order (and purpose) then each of us would welcome the communication since we would be eager to correct any energetic imbalance and get on with living the fullest life available to us.

Well, it is an interesting idea though, isn’t it? What would we do with those employed as medical practitioners, the legions of nurses, and other helpers engaged in many disciplines? If everyone could self-heal or was well, wouldn’t the sickcare industry suffer? Yes, it is true that being well is only profitable to the experiencer of the condition. And it may be awhile—even if the truth could be communicated—before such a movement might catch on.

Let’s see, how could we put it? How about, there are laws of nature regarding food, breathing and exercise and if you follow them, your mindbodyspirit system maintains balance and is self healing. That’s probably too simple, isn’t it?

Your Healthy Heart (continued from last month)

Most recently we all learned of the death of Meet the Press moderator Tim Russert from a Heart Attack. Following the advice of his doctors, taking his medications and walking on his treadmill did not prevent the event or save his life. It is not an unusual story and had it happened to someone less well known, neither you nor I would have even heard about it. Yet it happens every day.

Mistakes Despite Best Efforts

Your body’s highly efficient cardiovascular system works tirelessly day in, day out, even while you sleep. All of its individual components need to be in good working order to keep you in tip-top shape. Perhaps it’s no wonder, then, that there are so many cardiologists and other heart specialists throughout the world. In addition, thousands of nurses, hospital technicians, and caregivers take it upon themselves to learn how to work with heart patients.

Even within this highly specialized field, mistakes are made. Consider this: According to HealthGrades, an organization that monitors and reports on the quality of healthcare throughout the United States, an average of 195,000 patients die each year as a result of preventable mistakes in American hospitals.

The significance of these statistics, beyond the terrible tragedy of so many deaths that could have been prevented, is that we can’t rely 100% on medical experts to take care of our health. We must take it upon ourselves to learn how to maximize our health and minimize – better yet, avoid altogether – our hospital stays. In effect, each of us needs to become our own cardiovascular expert. It’s time we learn to be responsible for our own health and wellness choices.

Take Responsibility

How, exactly, do you go about taking responsibility? By becoming informed and by taking action to suit your personal circumstances. As the timeless saying goes, “Knowledge is power.” The more you know, the more you empower yourself to make heart-healthy decisions.

In this book, you will find answers to your heart health-related questions. You will learn:

  • How emotions affect your heart, and how to use this knowledge to your advantage

  • How certain forms of heart disease and stroke can be prevented

  • How you can take proactive action, even when you feel you’re having a heart attack

  • How to teach your children and teenagers to be heart-healthy

  • How reducing stress can boost your heart health

  • How breathing is an important tool to regulate your heart rate in any situation

  • How to find alternative therapies, supplements, and treatments

You are being given a broad, panoramic view of natural, traditional, and complementary medical approaches for the treatment and care of heart disease and stroke. The information provided here can help you prevent, and in some cases even reverse, the effects of heart disease. Step by step, the following chapters guide you toward living a heart-centered life, taking care of the whole person – physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

Your – And Your Family’s – Health

Stroke prevention and heart-nourishing living is a matter of learning what action to take on your own behalf, and how to take this action, without depending exclusively on traditional medical experts. There is much you can do to restore your health and reduce your chances of having a heart attack or stroke. And you don’t even have to be sick to feel better!

Some of the ideas presented here your doctor may already know about, and may have suggested to you at some point. Other information may be unfamiliar to your physician, perhaps because she or he hasn’t had the time to learn and explore. Either way, these concepts are backed by research and studies. You’ll find many of them eye-opening.

You will learn things that you can do – many of them surprisingly simple – to measurably improve your relationship to your heart health. Since no two people are exactly alike, you’ll have the option to make choices based on your individual nature, your unique characteristics, and your particular set of circumstances. Once you empower yourself with this information, you’ll want to share it with your family members to help them enjoy better heart health, too. Your heart and the heart of each of your family members will thank you for it.

Chapter 1

A National Concern

We see and yet not perceive

A Disturbing Picture

Imagine turning on the evening news and learning that not one, not two, not five, but seven fully loaded 747 jumbo-jet passenger planes crashed today, and that everyone on board each plane perished. It would be a horrible, mind-numbing tragedy of untold proportions. The sad reality is that this is how many people die a day, every day, from heart disease. That’s right – the equivalent of seven planeloads of people die each day from heart disease. Perhaps the greatest tragedy is that many of these deaths could have been prevented, had the individuals been empowered with life-saving information.

Here’s another way to look at the situation. You’re in a large lecture hall that seats 300 people. Every seat is taken. As the minutes tick by, one person dies each minute. At this rate, everybody in that crowded lecture hall would be dead in five hours. This is the rate at which Americans are dying from heart disease. Sobering, isn’t it?

Now and For the Future

This doesn’t even take into account those who escape death and survive an initial heart attack, and then suffer a debilitating loss of some kind – a disability brought on by the heart attack, or a loss of sensation, motion, function, or stamina. This is the situation we’re in. Can it improve? You bet it can. But before it does, people need to empower themselves to make heart-healthy choices and live heart-healthy lives.

Case Study: Bill Clinton

Like all U.S. presidents and former presidents, Bill Clinton had access to the best surgical and medical care available. He’s had access to the latest, most advanced drugs made by top pharmaceutical companies. He received regular, thorough checkups from eminent physicians. There was never a lack of traditional medical care of the highest caliber for Clinton.

If what it takes to stave off heart disease are regular checkups and constant monitoring by the best doctors around, then Clinton should have been in the best heart-health possible. But in 2004, as he stepped off a plane, he experienced severe tightness in his chest. He thought it was due to exhaustion. In actuality, he was experiencing the effects of a 90% blockage in two arteries, along with additional heart damage. Heart surgery was ordered.

Clinton had to undergo quadruple bypass surgery, a procedure that required his chest to be cut open from his neck to his breastbone. How could this happen to someone with access to what’s regarded as the best healthcare in the world and who, at the age of 58, was deemed by doctors to be in good health with no known history of heart disease?

Clinton himself offers some clues. According to a CNN report, he stated that:

"Some of this is genetic, and I may have done some damage in those years when I was too careless about what I ate. So for whatever reason, I've got a problem, and I've got a chance to deal with it."

There’s truth in his assessment, but it’s not the whole picture. It’s not that Bill Clinton just got too heavy or had too little activity, or ate too much of the wrong foods, or that his hereditary tendencies were responsible for his arterial blockage. It was a combination of all these factors. In a whole system, everything counts.

(continued next month)

Give your mindbodyspirit system a gift of peace for the new you. You are one who recognizes that though you cannot control how others act, you directly contribute to the emotional energy of a situation. Thinking love, radiating peace, you support otn turn, boosts you.

The ezine of The International Breath Institute (IBI) is sent from Dr. Tom Goode. IBI shares ways to stay awake in the dream and keeping:

  • your thoughts heading in the direction you choose
  • your emotions open and flowing—
  • and physically feeling fully alive.

Just Breathe! provides ideas, tips and suggestions for attaining optimal health and wellness through lifestyle management--learning to live in harmony and alignment with our holistic nature…and a sometimes humorous look at life on Planet Earth. Just Breathe! is both a magazine of higher consciousness and a home-study course.

Who It Is For

JB! readers are typically those who know of their make-up as body, mind and spirit. They are referred to as the awakening or awake as contrasted with being asleep to or oblivious of one’s spiritual nature. Just Breathe! is for people consciously embracing their spiritual path.

As a whole (holistic, holy) being each of us is comprised of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects coordinated within one unitary expression. The four aspects of the mindbodysoul system are examined and described separately for clarification.

From an energetic perspective, each of us is are already whole and complete, expressing our true nature at our individual level of evolution of consciousness. Modern science and ancient wisdom confirm our divinity, the existence of the soul and life that continues beyond physical death.

Render Greater Service

The implications of human nature as consciousness with a “soul” are profound. Scientific revelations validate both ancient and more modern spiritual knowledge. Taking action to be one’s “best” or higher, more enlightened self is generally conceded to be the greatest service or gift to others any one person can make.

If there were nothing to fix, and only to realize (make real) one’s true nature, a good first step would be to make real that feeling (of wholeness and completion) in the body by anchoring it with Full Wave Breathing. All that is required is to put Full Wave Breathing to work. Repeated over time, the seemingly miraculous occurs.

Content

The Just Breathe! ezine expresses a view of the mindbodysoul aspects of holistic health. It is a monthly newsletter for the awakened and awakening--who know themselves to be multidimensional (energetic, divine sparks) beings with physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects. It is for those who practice their spiritual purpose by living lives of greater enlightenment and service through the pathways of Love, Joy and Peace.

The Soul

This ezine is for those whose interest is in their consciousness (increasing conscious awareness) as a spiritual being. Just Breathe! is a community (common unity) connection for awakening and awakened beings, integrating the wonders of Life. Just Breathe! shares a perspective, an alternative (holistic) view of human existence, intended to expand the mind's understanding. The mind then relaxes so the ego “watch dog” role that produces anxiety and tension can be set aside. Head and heart function together to respond to life’s circumstances, operating from "higher" consciousness or being in the flow of life.

The general idea is that the more whole one’s life, then the greater is the access to health and happiness. Researcher Dr. David Hawkins points out that to increase awareness even a little is significant because growth is logarithmic rather than linear.

Healing

Having awakened to, become cognizant of, the process of awakening, the usual next step is to heal the physical level. Otherwise a great deal of energy that could otherwise be utilized at another level of being is expended on maintenance of the body.

Healing may or may not involve a “cure” for any condition. The healing step enables the individuated soul to more freely express creativity and joy. Each “healee” then becomes the source-connection of transformation for others. The lower body, housing the gut brain, is harmonized with the head/heart, operating as one. The vibratory effect upon others is harmonious, uplifting and, in-turn, transformative. One-by-one, each part of the whole—represented by the individual-- sounds his note until music abounds.

Context

Full Wave Breathing, among a host of alternatives, is the single, most

important exercise for our life and whole health. Those who use it regularly feel better and more alive.

Think About It: Each of us is a cell in the body of humanity, totally unique--just like everyone else. Each is tasked with job of expressing their potential. An awesome task, it is impossible unless you breathe well.

Work Task

My chosen job is to train joy generators, individuals who seek to be avenues of healing and upliftment to the world around them. The by- product of being a joy generator is that you live in the flow of life, balanced and harmonious in your world. Isn’t it really your mission to pursue joy—the soul connection with life? Once you get the joy part, you then have a new mission to spread the joy. Joy generators are much needed. Today.

Oh, by the way, joy comes from living in the now, neither pulled into the past by guilt and regret nor thrust into the consideration of the future in worry and anxiety. There are 3 Steps to Joy

Three Steps to Joy

  1. Open Your Breathing with Full Wave Breathing
  2. Become Aware of Your Breathing Throughout the Day
  3. Just Breathe and then do the next thing

Focusing in the present using the breath is an easy way to be constantly re-minded of our nature as spiritual beings. Observe your cat or dog as breathing takes place. The inhale and exhale are connected—just like in your Full Wave Breathing exercise. Notice how you breathe today. And exercise your breathing at least once daily for as little as a month and see if it doesn’t help:

    • The way you feel in general
    • The way you feel about things
    • The way things feel to you.

In The Coming Months

I’ll be challenging your to become more joyful and providing timely information:

A Letter From the Future—Speculative Fiction view of planetary life.

It was thought to have begun with Sherry (Cherokee) Parks who blew some of her brain circuitry in her twenties during an LSD trip, and had been on Social Security and Welfare ever since. She claimed to hear voices from her traumatic trip and called it tuning in. Others called her crazy because the voices she claimed to hear were from her cats.

She claimed they gave her political opinions about life on the planet and were here to learn how to be laid back. They had these powerful sleek bodies and strong survival instincts. They had chosen this form to learn how to control their instincts and to meditate. A couple of those instincts like chase and pounce seemed above reason and not subject to much control.

Cherokee was so named because on one of her trips she dreamed she was a Native American and after that adopted the name. She said the cats told her they were telepathic, all being connected to what they called, “The Cat Star.”  It was somewhere on the other side of our sun and would come from behind it in the year 2053, the end of a cycle. This was to herald a new time for cooperation between species, led by cats and humankind.

You’ll recall she was the woman behind that campaign a few years back called “Cats Are People Too.” She still smiles today when asked about it and claims the cats put her up to it. After gay marriage was given the OK and polygamy was cleared since no one wanted to prosecute the law, they said the time was right. And the Internet was the way.

This was right after the US elected their first President of color after contesting for the opportunity with the first female candidate. The time for change was ripe. Everyone was put on the dole to make up for inflation and job loss. Some of the money saved by firing the IRS was given to the churches that made sure those who didn’t give their fair share—at least 10% would be shunned, made to feel God-force guilt and estrangement. They were brow beaten into supporting the national “village” as it was called. There was a rise in government income and a huge net profit from cutting the expense of collection.  Read More....

Messing with Mother—Stories for Cat Lovers

We watch, husband and wife, and are focused. This is the time when the cats leave the house and graze on plant life in the fenced enclosure. Without our mental leashes, the two 3-year olds would leap the six foot enclosure in an instant. They have done it before. They are quiet in their exploration and ignore the bird sitting on the fence and his insistent squawking at them

It’s the first week in June at sundown in North Texas, looking out at the sun above the slatted, plainest fencing the subdivision builder could find.  It has cooled to the mid-80’s and the heat radiates even more warmth from the brick façade and 4’ x7’ slab that makes up the back yard observation post as we watch the cats roam the tiny yard.

When they were young, we discovered their nature to be limitless climbers in their native habitat. A strain of jungle cat domesticated because of its exotic beauty, the Bengal is an independent creature and not given to much discussion. They have always had the run of a yard and access to the outdoors. This is their first tour as indoor cats because of the neighborhood association rules. They are not overjoyed at the situation.  Read on...

Realization

What is personal realization? I use this term instead “enlightenment” to describe what happens when you realize you are part of the One—actually the One—looking out from the personal identity eyes. The task, after having such an awakening, epiphany or illumination, is to live from that glimpse of conscious awareness full time or to “make real” the awareness.

People who take our workshops often report such awakening or enlightening experiences. Then, as is inevitable since we are in bodies for a purpose, the euphoria passes and we are once again confronted with our daily lives. The stressors have not disappeared. Hopefully, however, the insights gained in such moments enable us to embrace life with more love and less reaction.

Yeah, don’t we wish! Too often, the weekend ends, and tomorrow is rush hour again, tugs on mommy’s skirt and the pressures of hunting down the next meal. How is a person supposed to deal? As you have learned, there is no “supposed to.” Each one of us is already well-equipped to deal with our lives. The solution, as you continue to be reminded, is simple: Just Breathe! and then do the next thing.

So I am hoping you’ll continue to be a member of the IBI (say those three letters aloud 3 time and see how it feels) community. If you like, I won’t refer to you as a heavy breather. Besides I’d rather know you as a conscious soul.

My job? (Acronym for Joy Of Being) My job is to tune into what is needed in the readership group and write about effectively handling the challenges presented by living in a body in these increasingly challenging times.

For those who have journeyed with me this far in the ezine, there is a special announcement. A new workshop is set for those who wish to fly highest and fastest in their spiritual exploration and journey. It requires that you have reached a certain level of what is termed “spiritual growth” before participation would be appropriate for you. I promise, however, for those who do attend, truly amazing results. Special Announcement.

What’s Ahead?

You’ll begin to notice that the people around you find it more difficult more people to stay centered and balanced. Your job is to maintain a heart-oriented focus as you observe this taking place. Doing so is a gift to yourself and those around you. Avoid many of the difficulties inherent in living in these exciting times by remembering to Just Breathe!...and then do the next thing.

Remembering is easier than ever with Full Wave Breathing and this ezine as reminders.  So consider the Just Breathe! Ezine as champion of your cause.. Just Breathe! is a simple statement with which to begin. Then the newsletter provides suggestions and ideas so you can most effectively discover what the next thing IS for you.

I look forward to increasing my service to you. As always, you can email me with any questions or suggestions.

Training the Brain

Some of the information in the ezine is repeated so it becomes ingrained in your consciousness. Simply reading the material is of benefit. Each month the words change slightly, the concepts becoming more refined and defined. Look for the changes, the shifts in emphasis and expansion of ideas in each new issue. Those who skip sections are missing information that could be important in creating and expanding their joyful existence.

The usual human tendency is to have to hear or read things many times before acceptance sinks in. This very normal process occurs when an idea is first introduced. Repeated exposure then brings us to acceptance, and finally adoption of an idea. Then changes occur automatically as if by some magical process. It is a magical process in that science cannot yet explain how, as our attitude shifts, the cells respond as if they were conscious. If they act as if they are conscious, what does that tell us about their nature?

Note: See Advanced Full Wave Breathing at the end of the exercise instruction.

A Simple Message That Bears Repeating

Use Full Wave Breathing to effectively manage 85% of your biochemistry and boost your mindbodysoul system's natural healing ability. How important is this in your life? How great do you want to feel? What would happen if you tithed 10% of your time to your spiritual unfoldment? What kind of result do you imagine would occur? 2.4 hours per day x 6 days would give you the equivalent of a day and a half of normal “work” time devoted just to you. What kind of results would you expect? Those who practice Full Wave Breathing daily report incredible results. Start where you are and build progressively—like any other kind of exercise.

Sickcare—The System

If you don't take care of your own health you become a participant in what is known as Healthcare, Sickcare a system based upon the study of sick people and focusing on how to "fix" them. It addresses symptoms rather than causes and treats disease as an enemy to be eradicated. Imagine instead that you observed healthy people and adopted their practices. What might then be the result and the state of your health?

It is not that you ignore pain. Do get out of pain first. If you have a condition, take care of it. Get the help you need. And do ask inside. Pose your question about your condition is your mind: Mindbody, what do I need to do about _______? Then Full Wave Breathe for 15 minutes and note your insights and answers. It usually doesn’t even take that long before you get an answer and achieve understanding of what steps to take.

Self-Responsible LoveCare™

How would you treat illness if it was not your enemy, and was instead only a message concerning stressors in your mind and body? Most likely you would cooperate with the body using principles based upon natural health. The first place to begin is with the basic foundation of life, your breathing.

Our mind and body work well until overloaded with stressors accumulating in cells and tissues. Chronic stress then makes us become a shallow breather, wearing down the immune system. Blood becomes toxic, and lacking oxygen and energy, the body is unable to defend itself against either internal or environmental stressors. The result is discomfort, disease, disability and premature death. Fortunately, for the wise, there is an alternative!

Each of us can practice protective and preventative, remedial and restorative self-care by doing the things we already know to do to support autoimmune health: Update beliefs, eliminate toxins in food and water, manage toxic emotions, avoid toxic noise and breathe!

Holistic Practices

  • The foundation of all holistic health practices is deeper, more effective breathing that benefits respiration, circulation, vitality, digestion, assimilation, and more.
  • Breathing affects the entire system.
  • Master breathing and we master the ability to stimulate healing resources.
  • Direct the power of the mind using breathing.

Use Full Wave Breathing to simultaneously stimulate and relax the mindbody system Become aware of the body breathing, allowing thoughts to pass and enter a meditative state of calm alertness.

High Blood Pressure, Anxiety and Worry

Have high blood pressure? Worried or anxious about the future?

“Deep breathing is the first line of defense against chronic stress and resultant high blood pressure” –Bruce West, MD

Elevated blood pressure accompanies those bodily states where rapid, shallow breathing prevails. By altering breathing to a slow a diaphragmatic mode, blood pressure decreases. Elevated blood pressure is a major American health problem.” - Robert Fried, PhD, The Breath Connection

Full Wave Breathing promotes the unimpeded flow of consciousness through every cell in the body as healing takes place on all levels.

Our Breathing Affects

The ABC's of Higher Consciousness

Attitude--Expectant or repellant; positive or negative; open or closed to Life; and embracing as differentiated from resisting; healing or declining; We can get better or get bitter. Make it a nice day!

Breath--Let the exhale demonstrate the complete surrender to God/Universe of all cares and concerns; becoming non-resistant to the tensions of the body, relaxing the cells, molecules and atoms. Consciously directing our breathing throughout your day re-minds us of our spiritual nature, and is a boost to health and energy.

Choice—We either listen to the voice for Love or the voice for Fear, that of ego. One knows that all are innocent; the other blames and sees the guilty. The choice is ours:

  • Tune into the Love channel

  • Access essence

  • Understand

  • Awaken

Determination--Nothing happens without our dedicated effort. Even something as simple as breathing requires our participation. To achieve more in life, there must be more invested. Usually all that is required is the gift of time. Let’s give it to ourselves.

Energy--All is energy vibrating at different rates. Each lives, moves and has its being in this Energy. It is called Soul, Creator/Source, God, Universe, All That Is. IT is bigger than can be imagined.

Focus--What we focus upon grows. Focus upon

  • The joy in life

  • Daily expression of gratitude

  • Moving forward to meet our dreams.

Our deepest dream is of unity, enlightenment, experiencing oneness, realization, actualization, transcendent consciousness--and not of material things. This is why when we get them, achieve, and succeed, we hunger for more. The most helpful dream is to achieve enlightenment. It continues after awakening.

Freedom—In our soul we are free. The challenge is to bring that freedom fully into our life through management of our energy. Our beliefs create our emotions and inform our health. What is required is individual to each of us; yet the path is similar as we ask, what beliefs would be required to produce a life of freedom, grace and ease —and adopt them.

Grace--There is a never-ending flow of grace awaiting our awareness so that: Life is more joyous, and the bumps on the path become less disruptive as we learn/remember/awaken into higher mind, beyond that of egoic consciousness. Full Wave Breathing can make the journey easier than ever before. Think of grace as effortless growth through your connection with joy.

Heaven or Hell—We get to choose which state to engage. If, as the master teachers say, “Heaven is within,” why don’t we going there more often to visit? What would happen if we devoted (consecrated) 100 breaths each day to do so? Who among us dares not find out?

Integrity—Being whole and complete is the essential nature of each individual--the potential seeking expression. What would happen if we each dedicated the next 100 Full Wave Breaths to feeling our wholeness, our integrity?

Joy—The vibration of Joy takes us out of person-ality and is the product of our connection with unity. Becoming a Joy finder in all that you we do,   making it part of our daily and life mission, calls us forward into greater life. The path to Joy is the dedication of life--our life, all life--to the good of all.

Kindness--Considered as one of the seven virtues, opposites of the seven deadly sins, Kindness is being helpful to one in need for the advantage of the person helped. It is treating the other as self, expressing our deeper connection and responding from the heart.  Kindness is caring in action.

Love—The substrate of being, the underlying nature of the unified field, the interconnectedness of all life and the unquestioning regard for all living expression.

Multiplicity—The nature of the One is manifest in multiplicity. Imagine each choice giving rise to an alternate universe—All That Is encompassing every possibility. The mind cannot hold it all or decide amongst the choices. The inner battle is won when the mind defers to the heart’s wisdom.

Natural—It is natural for the body to heal itself when the impediments and blocks to healing are removed. You are already whole and complete as a being. You are naturally your best self. Nothing more is required than to be natural. To become natural usually requires removing the unnatural—the ego thoughts and programs of lack and limitation.

Opportunity—Each moment brings us the choice to serve the ego or the true self. You can usually tell which choice you made by the way you feel. Are you calm and filled with peace? If not, as the Course in Miracles says, choose again. Take a few Full Wave Breaths, affirm that you serve the true self and continue with what you were doing. Doing so is a reminder that you are already whole and complete and, if you were serving the ego, had simply gone temporarily insane. It is no big thing, for with even one conscious breath to power your intention to be your best self, you are back on track and leaving the thoughts of worry and regret or anxiety and tension. Enjoy yourself! (Pump joy INTO your self)

Purpose—What if your purpose in life as a divine being was Joy—its embracement and expression? What if you had been born with a virtually unlimited capacity for joy and your culture had taught you to suppress it? Then all you would have to do to regain or recapture it would be to acknowledge and express it. What if joy were already inside of you, at the core of each cell? Then all you’d need to do to fulfill your purpose would be to relax and allow the joy within to guide your outer activities. How to do this is simple: Just Breathe!...and then do the next thing.

Query—The path is strewn with debris—old ideas handed down without experience. Dogma and unproven belief are potholes and cracks in the pavement to be avoided on our path. Over time they can become sinkholes, swallowing up the spiritual student and denying the light. Find out for yourself. Put teaching and techniques to the test in the laboratory of your own life. Otherwise you cannot know and eventually must be betrayed by the immortalized words of the unknowing who, believing, blundered blindly ahead. Have your beliefs been given you to control, enroll or enslave? Challenge them.

Regeneration—literally a new birth is given for the asking with each breath. More than the replacement of tissue or the growing of a lost limb, regenerations is a change of heart spoken of in the Bible as a passing from death to life. It occurs naturally when individual life is dedicated to spiritual instead of ego purpose. Spiritual purpose is love and dedication to It’s experience and practice bestows a renewal of the mind or quickening. Breathe the idea of regeneration fully into you body and see how it feels to you. Let your experience in “putting on” this idea be your guide as to its value in your life. Repeat often.

Exercise for the Soul

As you read, allow your body to relax, one part at a time. Take a breath as you become aware of each successive body area. Inhale and notice your hands and arms, and allow them to become soft and tension-free as you exhale.

  • Notice your mouth and jaws, and allow them to become soft and tension-free as you exhale.

  • Notice your forehead and eyelids, and allow them to become soft and tension-free as you exhale.

  • Notice your neck and shoulders, and allow them to become soft and tension-free as you exhale.

  • Notice your chest and back, and allow them to become soft and tension-free as you exhale.

  • Notice your waist and stomach, and allow them to become soft and tension-free as you exhale.

  • Notice your hips and buttocks, and allow them to become soft and tension-free as you exhale.

  • Notice your thighs and knees, and allow them to become soft and tension-free as you exhale.

  • Notice your calves and ankles, and allow them to become soft and tension-free as you exhale.

  • Notice your feet and toes, and allow them to become soft and tension-free as you exhale.

Take a deep, full breath and allow your entire body to relax, from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. Relax and feel the softness within. Allow a light from within your heart to radiate to your extremities. Stay with this feeling for awhile and you continue breathe slowly and fully, gently and easily. Enjoy!

Q & A

What does personality learn during this time of soul emergence?

1.         Surrender

2.         Detachment

3.         Accommodation

4.         Acknowledgement

5.         Acceptance

            Surrender:

  • To be willing to follow where soul leads;
  • That our desire to grow is greater than our fear of moving forward;
  • That we are willing to listen more to our intuition and to heart than to let self be confused by the mind’s opinions, judgments, prejudices.

This is not to say that we disregard mind completely. For in order to achieve stability, common sense in the third dimension world is just as important to making things happen as is the flow of our intuitive perception. To surrender means that we cease to fight the current, ending struggle, anxiety, and confusion.

       Detachment

  • To release personality preferences
  • That our joy is more important than being right
  • That we can still be engaged
